Jenny McCord |
Jenny McCord
Before moving here, Jenny and her husband Michael lived in San Antonio, Texas. She graduated with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies with an early childhood endorsement from UT in San Antonio, Texas in 2002 and then a Masters in Education with an ESOL endorsement from Western Oregon Univ. in 2006.
While Jenny studied different educational theories in her undergrad program she became very intrigued with the Montessori method. She crafted her own teaching style after the Montessori method as much as she could within the frameworks of public education. She believes in allowing children choice in their education and knows that giving them opportunities strengthens their abilities, confidence and independence.
She has taught in Woodburn as a kindergarten and first grade teacher in a dual language program. Her third year there she received the Crystal Apple Award from the district for the work she put into the program and for her accomplishments implementing a strong literacy program. She then moved to Silverton where she taught at Eugene Field in first grade and kindergarten. She was the chair on Site Council and team leader for kindergarten. Shortly after she moved to Silverton, she began to collaborate with the other founding members to help create the Community Roots School.
In her spare time, she enjoys listening to good music and being outdoors with her family. Jennifer, and her husband Michael, have one son.
From Jenny:
“Teaching is my passion! My classroom is very child centered, creative, rigorous and fun! I will provide engaging activities that are hands-on and that will deepen their understanding of what is being taught. My approach to teaching children is to create independent thinkers that explore learning with much excitement and anticipation. I hope to connect with your child on a level where we can create a strong bond here at school and beyond. It is very important to me that your child feels safe, happy and motivated to learn. I can’t wait to get this year started and I look forward to working with you in the future!”

Cindy Conesa |
Cindy Conesa
Cindy grew up in California, where she attended the University of California at Santa Cruz, earning a B.A. in philosophy. Subsequently, she attended Humboldt State University in northern California where she earned her state teaching credential.
After two years of public school teaching, Cindy and her family relocated to Toledo, Ohio, where her husband accepted a graduate fellowship. While in Toledo, Cindy completed her lower elementary Montessori training (AMS) and began her Montessori teaching career.
After a move to Washington state, she took her upper elementary training (AMS), worked as a teacher trainer for the Montessori Education Institute of the Pacific Northwest in Seattle, consulted for a new Montessori charter school in Alaska, and started up a 9-12 classroom at a private Montessori school where she continued as the lead guide for eight years.
She and her husband then took a sabbatical in Switzerland, where Cindy taught at an international Montessori school for two years. Upon returning to the states in 2006, she completed her M.Ed. and taught two years in public middle school in Ashland, Wisconsin.
Cindy has 16 years experience as a Montessori guide, and four years of public school teaching experience. She is overjoyed to be returning to Montessori education, and especially to be joining the Community Roots family.
