Geology ROCKS!!
For five weeks, the children rehearsed their lines, practiced their parts, sang the songs and prepared the props. The culminating event of all this hard work resulted in one of the most humorous and exciting nights of the year!!! Congratulations to the children for their successful production.

Adele was amazing in helping the children put it all together. We are so grateful to her for her creative input and all of the extremely hard work it took to put it all together. It was the highlight of the year!

Wish List:
For these last few weeks, we need a few items to make it to the end of the year:
1 package of coloring pencils per child
1 roll of paper towels per child
1 bottles of the cleaner “Green Works” by Clorox total per child
1 package of sponges per child
Reams of colored card stock – all generous donations happily accepted
Reams of while paper card stock - all generous donations happily accepted

Class Pets:
Chuey the frog would love to come home with a child for the summer. He is very easy to keep and only requires to be feed crickets once every few weeks.

Maria and Theresa the two mice are also going to need a home for the summer. They require a bit more attention, and are so much fun to watch!

Parent Newsletter for Community Roots School

May 14, 2010

It was lovely to see so many mothers and Grandmothers at the Mothers’day tea party last Friday. The children thoroughly enjoyed making preparations for the auspicious occasion and are now eagerly anticipating the Fathers’ day breakfast, which will be held on Wednesday, June 2 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

CRS Garage Sale and Pet Parade - May 15
Our school garage sale will be taking place tomorrow, May 15th, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 t 302 W. Main St. There are many wonderful items, which have been donated to this sale including TV’s stereo equipment, strollers, furniture, play structures, toys, books, clothing and more! Come and find special treasures and support our wonderful school.
We will also have a group participating in the Pet Parade. Come join the kids (and some pets) walking from Coolidge-McClaine Park to Eugene Field. Parade starts at 10:00am.

Early Release – May 24
Each month there is an early release day either once or twice a month when the children are dismissed at 1:00 p.m. The ‘Early Release’ afternoon is especially important for Jenny and Adele who work from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. each day without an official lunch break or planning time. These early release days are especially important for our teachers for planning and staff meetings and should be recognized as such. We so appreciate our teachers and the work they do on early release days and every day. Please show your consideration for their time and pick your child up at 1:00 on early release days.

Children’s Play – May 27
The children are currently working hard at learning lines and dances for our upcoming play called, “Geology Rocks”. This is going to be worth seeing and we invite you to bring along family and friends for this, soon to be, a Broadway hit. We have reserved the Mark Twain Middle School gym School for the evening of Thursday, May 27 where the play will be performed by our very own actors from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. Please bring your child to the Mark Twain gym by 6:45 that evening. No elaborate costumes are required. However, you could help your child select an outfit which gives a mere suggestion of their part in the play. The children have been asked to keep the play as much of a secret as possible so as not to ruin the surprise for parents but they may tell you enough to help with choosing a costume. Please send in the costumes for the last week of rehearsals before the performance. Send in the costumes on Monday, May 24.

Fathers’ Day Breakfast – Wednesday, June 2
The Fathers’ Day Breakfast will be held on Wednesday, June 2 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

Pot Luck Picnic - June 3
We are going to have our “End of Year” picnic prior to the end of the year, as Ms. Jenny is leaving for Houston June 5th in order to begin her Montessori training June 7th. There will be a substitute teacher, Thea, to work with Adele during the last two weeks of school.
